A Prius headlight retrofit kit should make it easier to upgrade the front lighting without forcing every owner to figure out the projector, bracket, connector, wiring, and mounting layout from scratch. That is the reason I started working on this 1.5-inch LED projector setup for the Toyota Prius.
This setup uses compact 1.5-inch Bi-LED projector pods that can be mounted inside a Prius headlight housing. Instead of only replacing a bulb and hoping for better output, the idea is to build a more serious projector-style headlight upgrade with a cleaner beam, stronger visual appearance, and flexible pod layout.
Prius Headlight Retrofit Kit Options
The goal is to make this Prius headlight retrofit kit available in different levels depending on how bright and aggressive someone wants the headlights to be. Some people may only want one LED projector per headlight. Others may want two or three projector pods per headlight for a more custom look.
The current projector link I am using is here:

1.5-Inch LED Projector Pricing Matrix
The pricing below is based on the 2-piece projector set shown at $38.49. This is only for the LED projector pods. It does not include custom brackets, connectors, wiring, taxes, shipping differences, or installation labor.
| Setup | Total Projectors Needed | 2-Piece Sets Needed | Estimated Projector Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 projector per headlight | 2 projectors | 1 set | $38.49 |
| 2 projectors per headlight | 4 projectors | 2 sets | $76.98 |
| 3 projectors per headlight | 6 projectors | 3 sets | $115.47 |
Why Use 1.5-Inch LED Projectors?
The 1.5-inch projector size matters because it is small enough to fit into tight Prius headlight areas while still giving the front end a more modern projector-style look. A larger projector can create more fitment problems, especially when trying to place multiple projectors inside one headlight housing.
With a compact projector pod, the layout becomes more flexible. A one-pod setup can be simple and clean. A two-pod setup gives more brightness and a custom appearance. A three-pod setup creates a much more aggressive headlight design and fills the housing better.
Designed Around Real Prius Headlight Testing
This project is not just about buying universal LED pods and forcing them into a Prius. I have already been working on the bracket side of the project, including 3D scanning, CAD design, and prototype layouts for the headlight housing.
You can read more about the bracket development here: LED 1.5-inch projector headlight brackets for H4 bulbs.
That bracket work is what makes this Prius headlight retrofit kit idea more realistic. The projector needs to be positioned correctly, held securely, and aimed in a way that makes sense. A bright LED pod by itself is only part of the system. The bracket, connectors, wiring, and final layout are what turn it into a real upgrade.

One, Two, or Three Projectors Per Headlight
The nice part about this design is that Prius owners can choose how far they want to go. Not everyone needs the most aggressive version. Some people may want a simple upgrade with one projector per side. Others may want the full custom look with three projector pods per headlight.
That gives the project room to grow into different kit levels:
- Basic setup: one LED projector per headlight
- Dual setup: two LED projectors per headlight
- Triple setup: three LED projectors per headlight
The connectors are the next important part because they help make the install cleaner and easier. Once the connectors are sorted out, the whole setup gets closer to being something that can be repeated instead of being a one-off custom experiment.
Prius Headlight Retrofit Kit Development
This Prius headlight retrofit kit is being developed from real testing, real parts, and real fitment work. The plan is to make a cleaner path for Prius owners who want projector-style LED headlights without starting from zero.
Instead of making people guess which LED pods to buy or how to mount them, the goal is to offer a more complete direction with projector options, bracket design, and connector planning already thought through.
For now, I am waiting on the connectors and continuing to refine the setup. Once everything comes together, this should make it much easier for people to build a bright, aggressive, and more modern Toyota Prius headlight setup.
