Gen 3 Prius linear solenoid calibration can be done without Techstream by using a jumper wire at the DLC3/OBD2 port. This procedure is used to clear stored linear solenoid valve calibration data and run the linear solenoid valve offset learning process.
This is one of those Prius brake procedures that sounds more complicated than it really is. The important part is doing it in the correct order, making sure the 12V battery is healthy, keeping the vehicle still, and not touching the brake pedal while the calibration is running.
This article explains how to clear the stored calibration data and run the linear solenoid valve calibration using a jumper wire on a Gen 3 Toyota Prius.
What Is Linear Solenoid Valve Calibration?
The Prius brake system uses electronically controlled brake pressure. The linear solenoid valve calibration teaches the brake control system the correct valve offset values so the brake actuator and skid control ECU know how to control hydraulic pressure properly.
If this calibration is not completed, the car may store brake-related trouble codes. One of the common codes is C1345, also known as ECB code 66, which means the linear solenoid valve offset learning has not been completed.
Toyota gives two main ways to perform this procedure:
- Using Techstream
- Using a jumper wire at the DLC3/OBD2 port
This write-up focuses on the jumper wire method for Gen 3 Prius linear solenoid calibration.
When This Procedure May Be Needed
This procedure may be needed after replacing or servicing brake system components such as:
- Brake booster with master cylinder
- Skid control ECU
- Brake actuator
- Brake pressure sensor
- Brake pedal stroke sensor
- Brake pedal
If the brake booster with master cylinder, actuator, or brake-related sensor has been replaced, the vehicle may need the stored calibration data cleared and the linear solenoid valve calibration performed again.
Before You Start
Before doing this procedure, make sure the car is set up correctly. Skipping these basics can cause the calibration to fail.
- The 12V battery should be fully charged and healthy.
- The steering wheel should be centered.
- The car must be in Park.
- The parking brake must be released.
- The brake pedal must not be pressed.
- The vehicle must stay completely still.
- The brake actuator should not be hot.
A weak 12V battery can cause the procedure to fail. If the brake actuator is hot from repeated brake work or bleeding attempts, let the vehicle sit before trying the calibration again.
Tools Needed
- Small jumper wire
- Access to the DLC3/OBD2 port under the dash
- A healthy 12V battery
You do not need Techstream for this version of the procedure.
DLC3 / OBD2 Pin Locations
The DLC3 connector is the OBD2 port under the driver side dash. For this procedure, you will use terminals TS and CG.
- TS = Pin 12
- CG = Pin 4
Facing the DLC3/OBD2 port from the front, the pin layout is:
Top row: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
CG
Bottom row: 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16
TSBe careful when using the jumper wire. Do not short the wrong terminals.
Step 1: Clear Stored Linear Solenoid Valve Calibration Data
The first step is clearing the stored calibration data. This resets the old learned values so the brake system can relearn the linear solenoid valve offset.
- Turn the power switch OFF.
- Center the steering wheel.
- Make sure the car is in Park.
- Release the parking brake.
- Do not press the brake pedal.
- Turn the power switch ON IG.
- Do not make the car READY.
- Using the jumper wire, connect and disconnect terminals TS and CG four or more times within eight seconds.
- Confirm that no unexpected brake codes are stored.
- Remove the jumper wire from the DLC3 port.
After clearing the calibration data, the only allowed test-mode codes should be:
- ABS code 42
- VSC code 45
- ECB code 48, 66, or 95
If other codes are present, diagnose those before assuming the calibration will complete normally.
Step 2: Run Gen 3 Prius Linear Solenoid Calibration
After clearing the stored data, run the linear solenoid valve initialization and calibration.
- Turn the power switch OFF.
- Center the steering wheel.
- Make sure the car is in Park.
- Release the parking brake.
- Connect terminals TS and CG with the jumper wire.
- Do not press the brake pedal.
- Turn the power switch ON IG.
- Do not make the car READY.
- Leave the vehicle completely still for one to two minutes.
- Do not press the brake pedal.
- Do not apply the parking brake.
- Do not move the vehicle.
- Do not turn the power switch OFF while learning is running.
- Watch the yellow brake warning light.
- Wait for the blink pattern to change from slow blinking to fast blinking.
- Turn the power switch OFF.
- Remove the jumper wire from TS and CG.
What the Brake Warning Light Means
The brake warning light blink pattern tells you what the system is doing.
| Blink Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Slow blinking, about once per second | Linear solenoid valve calibration is running |
| Fast blinking, about every 0.25 seconds | Calibration has completed and the system is in test mode |
The amount of time needed can vary depending on 12V battery voltage. If the battery is weak, the calibration may not complete.
Important Warnings During Calibration
During the Gen 3 Prius linear solenoid calibration, do not disturb the vehicle. The learning process can be canceled if anything interrupts it.
Do not do any of the following while calibration is running:
- Do not press the brake pedal.
- Do not apply the parking brake.
- Do not move the vehicle.
- Do not turn the power switch OFF.
- Do not shift out of Park.
If the procedure is interrupted, the Prius may store C1345 or ECB code 66 again.
If C1345 or ECB Code 66 Comes Back
If C1345 comes back after the procedure, the linear solenoid valve offset learning did not complete correctly.
Common causes include:
- Weak 12V battery
- Brake pedal was pressed during learning
- Parking brake was applied
- Vehicle was not in Park
- Vehicle moved during calibration
- Brake actuator was too hot
- Calibration was interrupted
- Wrong DLC3 terminals were jumped
- Jumper wire connection was loose
If the code returns, correct the issue and repeat the process from the beginning.
After the Calibration
After the linear solenoid valve calibration is complete, the yaw rate and acceleration sensor zero point calibration may also need to be performed. This is important because the brake control system, ABS, VSC, and skid control ECU rely on correct zero point values.
If the vehicle still has ABS, VSC, brake, or skid control warning lights after the calibration, scan the brake control system again and confirm which codes remain.

The jumper wire method is a useful way to run Gen 3 Prius linear solenoid calibration when Techstream is not available. The key is doing the procedure exactly, keeping the 12V battery strong, and not touching the brake pedal while the brake system is learning.
If the calibration keeps failing, check the 12V battery first, let the actuator cool down, confirm the correct DLC3 pins, and make sure the vehicle stays completely untouched while the calibration is running.
Done correctly, this procedure can clear C1345 / ECB code 66 and complete the linear solenoid valve offset learning without needing Techstream.
